Heather Keller is co-owner, manager, experiential learning mentor, riding instructor, horse trainer, and dog trainer of Skygazer Ranch. Heather's enthusiasm for a systems approach to life frequently gets her hands involved in every facet. A firm believer in setting the basics in place before building upon them, she is eager to ensure her equine and canine friends have these down and fully comprehended before participating in more advanced programs. Heather's students are likewise gifted with foundations of solid seats, steady hands, perfect posture, and an empathetic way of being before they are allowed to proceed to more advanced movement.
Heather has been raising and training horses implementing natural horsemanship methods of her own for the majority of her life. She has been instructing horseback riding lessons overlapping with horsemanship skills for over a decade. In her lessons and personal interactions with horses, she emphasizes the teachings of many of the greats, such as: Lendon Gray, Linda Kohanov, Sally Swift, Mary Wanless, and Sara Wyche.
The daughter of a professional dog trainer, Heather has always had a deep love for dogs along with horses. Implementing training techniques from some of today's greats into what she learned as a child, Heather has a naturally calm, assertive, and positive reward training system. Included in training is a lot of exercise, repetition, reward, and fun!
Heather is an energetic, enthusiastic, and positive instructor in safety, riding, caring for, and living in relationship with horses. While her riding background is primarily in dressage and jumping, she has been found many times riding bareback out on the trails with her dog in tow or playing in a quick game of broom polo!
Heather has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Evergreen State College, with an emphasis in Communications and Psychology along with a minor in Zoology. She is the delighted owner of several American Bashkir Curly horses and a Hungarian Warmblood, and is looking forward to successful continuation of her Curly Horse based life vision.
